This charming loft is located in the heart of the
historic centre of Tuscania, a picturesque town rich with an Etruscan
heritage, fifteen minutes from the Mediterranean coast. It is doors away
from the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria della Rosa and indeed the
design mirrors the arches and doorways of this ancient structure. The
Loft is situated on the ground floor of an eighteenth century two story
building. The entrance opens onto a small indoor courtyard with an
antique fountain and stone butto, which contains brightly coloured
plants and flowers. Beyond this is a gloriously light and airy loft
which is smartly laid out. It comprises of a bedroom area and a spacious
bathroom. Steps lead down to a livingroom, kitchen and dining area,
which overlooks the indoor courtyard. The space is unique in its
conception: clean and modern in its utilites and yet respecting the
antiquity of the structure, combining both elements into a contemporary
living space that is attractive. comfortable and highly desirable. The
view from the kitchen and living area exhibits the beautiful
marble flooring laid throughout the loft. This marble was carefully selected
from the Apuan Alps in Northern Tuscany, the same source from which
Michelangelo carved the David.
This would be an ideal space for a young couple. Because
of its proximity to the Mediterranean coast, it would also make a
fabulous holiday home or weekend retreat.
The Historic quarter of Tuscania is substabtial and is
completely surrounded by medieval walls of tufo, the local stone. From
the walls there is an excellent view of the Cathedral of San Pietro and
the surrounding countryside. This church is the architectural and
religious focal point of the city. Imposing in its Lombard-Romanesque
style, it was begun in 8th century and renovated in 11th-12th centuries.
Equidistant from the Mediterranean coast on one side and
lake Bolsena on the other. Tuscania is surrounded by rich agricultural
land. It was an important trading centre during Roman times, with Rome
only 90 kms to its south, Siena and Florence within easy reach to its
north.
